The Mother and Daughter Camp is a program that brings 4th and 5th grade girls and their moms or grandmothers together to do fun, stimulating hands-on science experiments and creative math, engineering and computer activities. Each session is two hours. Participants attend all 8 sessions. These sessions are taught by women educators from UC Merced and our local area. Guest speakers are also present and add their experiences to the classroom. The participants see the connections between experiments and application to our world.
This program has become so popular that we have added two sessions for each day. In recent years 24 girls and their moms and grandmas participated.
We are proud of all the volunteers from Merced AAUW and UC Merced who work to make this a great experience for girls and their families. This program grew in popularity due to the leadership of Jane Guerra. This year’s AAUW Science Camp Liaisons are Dena Traina and Kathleen Hull.
